Keren Cytter: I was the good and he was the bad and the ugly

From June to August 2006 the KW Institute for Contemporary Art presented the first Berlin exhibition of the artist, author and film maker Keren Cytter. A book with the same title with texts by Keren Cytter, Diedrich Diederichsen, Hila Peleg and Avi Pitchon has been developed on the occasion of this exhibition, titled I was the good and he was the bad and the ugly. The book is published by KW, Berlin and Revolver Verlag, Frankfurt am Main.

On the occasion of the publication of this book an evening with film screenings and readings takes place. The program includes a selection of Keren Cytter's texts and cinematic works as well as excerpts from Cytter's first feature film, New Age, which will be released early next year:

Natalie and Raz (Digital Video, 2001, 10 min.)

Family (Digital Video, 2002, 6 mins)

Continuity of Parks (2006, short story, read by Ruth Rosenfeld)

Nothing (Digital Video, 2003, 8 mins)

Repulsion (2006, short story, read by Ruth Rosenfeld)

Dreamtalk (Digital Video, 2006, 11 min)

"Although Keren Cytter's work is shown in galleries and uses video, it would be a mistake to automatically categorize her oeuvre as video art: ...) Her medium might be called the cinema rather then the video: She's an auteur as much as an artist." (Barry Schwabski in Artforum, October 2006)

The exhibition in Berlin and the publication is generously supported by the Mondriaan Foundation, Amsterdam.
