Discussion: Art and copyright - Original and originality in contemporary art

The artist, Cornelia Sollfrank, the philosopher Eberhard Ortland, the artist and jurist Klaus Staeck and the curator Alexandra Strüven will discuss.

Location: Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz, Berlin

The concept of art is subject to constant change. Since Duchamp's ready-mades and the emergence of performance art, the development of the artistic creative process has left the framework of the "classical" canon. At the same time, the Appropriation Art has developed a branch of art, which is looking for the confrontation by imitating or even taking over already existing works.

A draft law is currently being adopted, which is intended to regulate the remuneration rules for the use of copyrighted works. Against this background, the question as to when a work of fine arts is copyrighted is becoming increasingly important. Four experts with different approaches to contemporary art will explore whether a revision of the juridical concept of art is needed.

An event of the friends of ART FORUM BERLIN, the Friends of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin and the Academy of Arts with kind support from dtb-rechtsanwälte, Berlin.
