Living Archive:
Opening

In June 2013, Living Archive at KW Institute for Contemporary Art will present the results of the Living Archive project, initiated in 2011 by Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art. The project`s participants present their research and their responses to the Arsenal collection in the form of an exhibition. On view is a multilayered, subjective and idiosyncratic approach to the archive, which was founded 50 years ago and contains about 8.000 films.
The presentation at KW opens in parallel to the Living Archive Festival, and combines academic research material with artistic works. The exhibition thus refers to the different participants and their various takes on the collection

The exhibition contains artistic works and participations by: Filipa César, Madhusree Dutta & Ines Schaber, Martin Ebner, ENTUZIAZM, Stephan Geene, Angela Melitopoulos, Sabine Nessel and students of the FU Berlin, Johannes Paul Raether, Susanne Sachsse, Participants of the lens-based class at UdK (facilitated by Hito Steyerl), Marc Siegel, Nicole Wolf & Nanna Heidenreich with Deepa Dhanraj, Ala Younis, Florian Zeyfang.

Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art celebrates its 50th anniversary with the Living Archive Festival. Over one month, project participants present the results of their two years of work in and with the archive. Apart from the exhibition at KW, the festival will include book and DVD presentations, film programs, performances, compositions as well as lectures and discussions inviting to a vital and critical lecture of film history.

Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice is funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation) and the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin. The grant program of the project Living Archive is funded by the Goethe-Institut.
