Accessibility

Welcome to KW Institute for Contemporary Art!

KW is located in a former margarine factory in Auguststraße, Berlin-Mitte. The building, which is designed as a four-sided courtyard, is protected as a historic monument and therefore only partially accessible for visitors with limited mobility. We would like to make the visit as smooth and barrier-free as possible for all visitors. We are therefore constantly working on supplementing and improving our services and are always happy to receive your questions and suggestions! You can reach us at mediation@kw-berlin.de or 030/24 34 59–0.

Support by KW staff

Please ring the designated doorbell at the main entrance doorway (underneath the doorbell panel on the right). Our staff members from the counter will assist you to enter the building and Café Bravo as well.

Entrance to KW

The main access via Auguststraße is 247 cm wide and without stairs. A concrete path leads through the entrance gate into KW’s inner courtyard. You will see a white KW sign on the floor of this passage, which has a slight depression of approx. 5 cm in the rear area on the right side. The inner courtyard of KW is paved with cobblestones.

Access to the ticket counter and bookstore

Access to KW’s ticket counter is located in the rear area of the courtyard on the right side and is two steps above the ground (step height each 18 cm). A ramp suitable for wheelchairs as well as assistance can be provided by the counter staff.

Checkroom

In the area of the ticket counter, there is a ground-level entrance (width: 100 cm) to the checkroom. It has lockers that can be used against a deposit (1 € coin). There is also a free, unlocked checkroom. We would like to point out that KW does not assume any liability for checkrooms.

Seating and wheelchairs

In the inner courtyard, Café Bravo is providing seating. If required, we can provide mobile stools and a foldable wheelchair, both free of charge. Please contact the counter staff on-site or reserve in advance by phone via 030/24 34 59-0.

Access to the exhibition and event rooms

Access to the exhibition spaces as well as to the Pogo Bar in the basement is possible via an elevator, which is located in the courtyard behind Café Bravo on the left side. Unfortunately, KW’s Studio in the front building is not barrier-free. A staircase with 15 steps and railings lead up to the space.

Barrier-free Toilet

A barrier-free restroom is located on the 4th floor and is accessible via the elevator behind Café Bravo. Please get in touch with our employees for using the elevator.

Café Bravo

The path to Café Bravo is paved with cobblestones. The entrance to the café is at ground level through a glass door. Currently, this can only be operated manually. If needed, on-site staff will assist with opening the door.

Price policy and accompanying persons

Upon the presentation of an official certificate, severely disabled persons will obtain the reduced admission of 6 € and free entry for accompanying persons. Assistance dogs are allowed in the entire exhibition area.
