On the occasion of the opening of Sea Of Ice, an introductory conversation between Batia Suter and KW chief curator Ellen Blumenstein takes place on December 5, at 19 h. Admission is free, no registration necessary.

Batia Suter presents her new, site-specific installation Sea of Ice (2015). A copy of Caspar David Friedrich’s famous painting Das Eismee (The Sea of Ice, 1823–24) which was printed in black-and-white, poorly reproduced, and accidentally inverted was the starting point for this work. Departing from this, the artist develops a fragmented image landscape for the exhibition space KW Projects, one that intertwines the historical genre of landscape painting with the painting’s own widespread reproduction.
