Sofia Defino Leiby
you know the border’s closed right?
In her paintings and artist books, Leiby reflects upon individuality and mark-making by developing approaches to observation and measurement, and tracking subjective differences in cognition, attitudes, pathologies, and the unconscious. She has incorporated elements of psychometrics or psychological measurement as material for manipulation to address the cognitive processes inherent in creative production.
Sofia Defino Leiby has shown her work in Solo and two-person exhibitions at Page NYC, Ύλη[matter]HYLE, Athens, Kimmerich Berlin, and Clifton Benevento, New York. Her writing has been published in Texte zur Kunst, Spike Art Quarterly, and BOMB. Defino Leiby has been included in group exhibitions at Sweetwater, Berlin, The Green Gallery, Chicago, Springsteen, Baltimore, and Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, NYC, among others. Her work has been reviewed in Artforum, Mousse, Paper and Harper’s Bazaar Mexico.
Shirin Sabahi will present previous artworks and films that build upon narratives gathered around specific sites. She will relate them to her upcoming project on roof extensions, zooming in on this building element as a means for adding to Berlin’s housing stock. The project will be on view as part of the BPA exhibition at KW this Summer.
Recent solo exhibitions of Sabahi’s work took place at Edith-Russ-Haus, Oldenburg (2018) and Longue Road Projects, Oslo (2019). Her works were shown in a solo film program at Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai (2019), and in group exhibitions and screenings at Broad Art Museum, Michigan (2020), Savvy Contemporary, Berlin (2020), Centro Botin, Santander (2019), and Beirut Art Center (2018).
Saâdane Afif will present his upcoming first monograph Morceaux Choisis which features 48 of his exhibitions and performances, covering a period of 14 years. Through the lens of the 28 different sections of this publication, Afif will address the various aspects of his research and projects.
Saâdane Afif was born in Vendôme in 1970, he lives and works in Berlin. Defined as a chatty “post-conceptual” artist, the methods he employs are not categorized in any specific disci-pline. All his works are subject to a continuous process of alteration. He is the Convenor of the Bergen Assembly 2022 and his next exhibition The Fountain Archives and Beyond will open on June 17th at Foundation Antoni Tapies, Barcelona.
