Hygiene measures and precautions for your visit


During the course of the reopening of KW Institute for Contemporary Art on May 30, 2020, comprehensive hygiene measures and precautions have been taken to protect visitors and staff in accordance with the applicable standards of the State of Berlin. The total number of visitors permitted into the current exhibitions is limited to 25 people, so that the minimum distance of 1.5 m can be maintained. Furthermore, visitor traffic in the courtyard of KW is regulated accordingly. 


Please only visit KW if you feel healthy and kindly observe the following hygiene measures and precautions during your visit:


Keep your distance & follow the guidance system
Please visit KW according to the current contact regulations. Please always keep a minimum distance of 1.5 m away from other visitors and avoid direct physical contact. Follow the guidance system on-site to ensure a smooth and safe procedure for everyone.


Wash & disinfect your hands
Please wash your hands regularly with soap for at least 20 seconds and also use our disinfectant dispensers which are stationed throughout the building.


Cough and sneeze etiquette
Please cough or sneeze into your elbow, not into your hands.


Wear nose-mouth protection
In the interest of everyone’s safety, our staff wear nose-mouth protection. We kindly ask you to wear nose-mouth protection as well. If you do not have nose-mouth protection, you will receive a protection at KW’s counter.


In order to comply with the current hygiene standards on-site, the restroom and high-use surfaces are cleaned and disinfected several times a day during the week.

Café Bravo
Café Bravo’s coffee specialties, cakes, and pastries can be ordered to take away or enjoyed in KW’s courtyard, however please stay within the marked areas.


KW’s publications and the Berlin Biennial catalogues can only be purchased in their original packaging from the bookstore prior to visiting the exhibitions, or ordered directly from our webshop. Please disinfect your hands before browsing through the viewing copies.


In order to comply with the legal distancing regulations, KW’s cloakroom will remain closed during this period. We kindly ask you to refrain from bringing luggage with you that is larger than A4 size.


You are welcome to leave your prams at the designated spot in the courtyard, which is to the left of the main entrance of KW’s counter. The space can accommodate up to three prams.


Due to construction work, there is only one restroom available which can be found in the left side wing on the third floor. For this reason, it is also not possible to access the barrier-free restroom. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
