Visitors are invited to participate in a guided movement workshop exploring Kazuko Miyamoto’s String Constructions. The workshop is held by the KW mediator Kerri Fitzsimons together with her guest, Sarah Butler.
This program unfolds in two parts: first, visitors will be guided through the exhibition's space and engage with the work of Miyamoto. . The second half, taking place in the mediation room, is a workshop exploring the exhibition through movement for a more personal, embodied response to the exhibition.
Repeatable but unique gestures construct the intricate forms of Miyamoto’s sculptures, drawing on notions of collectivity, liveness and temporality. The body is a storehouse of repeated gestures with infinite pathways and movement patterns: the workshop focuses on finding presence in space and the collective experience.
Sarah Gordon Butler likes making things. Working with movement, theater, film, wearable structure, embroidery, and vocal harmonies, she is interested in exploring how the weaving of seemingly separate mediums can result in something surprising and honest.
Kerri Fitzsimons is a Berlin-based performance artist, educator and yoga teacher. She believes that through friendly mediation which prioritizes personal interpretation, we can challenge exclusivity in the arts and offer accessible creative spaces.
