Jan Berger presents AOC:playbook, which introduces the online platform Roblox and the conceptual foundation of the artist’s elaborate play with infrastructures.
At this event, Berger guides us through his Roblox world AOC:world, created especially for the work Act of Contrition. The artist has created a creative studio for digital content on the online platform, including a business building that is run entirely by a team of young adolescent avatars. This environment serves as a backdrop and subject of artistic exploration in which Berger experiments with the possibilities of cross-generational, collaborative, and alternatively financed practices.
The artist’s interest in developing alternatives to prevailing strategies of artistic creation is a direct response to systemic inequalities in the current art economy. He explores what influence the use of publicly accessible online platforms, such as Roblox, could have on the polarized stratification of wealth and power in the art context.
