Exploring the practices of sampling and riffing, this two day workshop will explore how our local environment and archives can be a source of improvisation and collaborative sound art. Participants will be introduced to various histories of collage, sampling, riffing, and improvisation and then will work through a series of activities to produce their own sound pieces. We hope that participants will begin to consider questions of legibility, comprehension, and the palimpsest when creating sound. We also hope that participants walk away with strategies to continue exploring their environment and created layered sound works.
