Our cities are in constant flux. Various things contribute to this transformation—the visual arts are just one of many. On the one hand, art can portray real developments in displacement, gentrification, and restructuring, but at the same time it is also an active participant. Urban change and art are thus often mutually dependent.

At the REALTY Summer Academy we, along with all of you and the filmmaker Anna Caroline Arndt, would like to ask ourselves: How do we perceive this change in the city, in our district, on our street? How and where does this change become visible, where does it remain hidden? What is the role of art? What can it change? Can we change anything (through art) at all?

As we ask these questions, we begin searching for our own artistic perspectives, which we will narrate through animated GIFs, photos, animation, and documentary or fictional sequences.

The Summer Academy is part of REALTY and was made possible by funding from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
