In order to gain access to any archive, you must first have a sensible database. A filmic database begins initially as a collection of raw data, which must be arranged following its inner connections. The question of how a moving image medium can be cataloged is an ongoing challenge, no matter what it is intended for, whether to academic, artistic, practical or even to subversive ends. In this podium discussion, artists, scientists and media activists will introduce different methods of audio-visualization and of media translation. They will discuss, among others, terms such as subjectivity and abstraction, as well as the relation between the data and their underlying objects.
